Rematch Between Cassidy and Freeway Set For 2022

Smack brought out Philly rap icon Cassidy before the main event, which featured Geechi Gotti vs Loaded Lux, and announced that he will be returning to the ring in 2022.

"We're about to get back to work at the beginning of the year. Do you want to know with whom he'll be battling? "Who do you think he's going to take on next?"

Smack was quick to point out that this was not going to be your average fight. As Cassidy's opponent approaches, he makes an allusion to the influence of the Smack DVD era on him.

"Hey Drake, Yo. Which one is it, exactly? This time is an exception. Smack said, "They ain't even ready for this one yet. It took me a long time to come up with this one." This one was a long time in the making for me, so I'm sorry. Smack DVDs are back in vogue. URL is a new-born. We're reverting back to the Smack days. This is where we're headed: the streets.

That was the only way to rule out the possibility of a second opponent. Only Freeway, Philadelphia's own hip-hop legend, could stand in Freeway's way. And it was, too, as expected.

When it comes down to competing with another one of my brothers who also represents Philadelphia, it's my brother, Freeway!

Freeway took to the stage to pay homage to his memorable verse in the hit classic "What We Do," which also features Beanie Sigel and Jay-Z.

This is the second time they've faced off, the first being in 2001. Their six-round fight took place in their hometown of Philadelphia at a club called "Dances." Despite spitting hard hitters and displaying his charismatic flow in what is considered a classic battle, Freeway ran out of rhymes by the sixth round. Cassidy, according to many, was the victor of the battle because of his lyrical prowess and clever wordplay in his rhymes.

Cassidy said, "All I want to tell y'all is that bars are back." "Something big is going to pop in 2022," he predicted. The fucking culture needs this, not just my city, Philadelphia."

Rapper Freeway and "I'm A Hustla" went on to remind the public of their pioneering influence on modern battle rap, implying that the "Til Death Do Us Part" event would not have taken place if it weren't for their classic battle.
It's not our fault, you know. "Y'all saw me and this nigga [Freeway] going at it before you saw any of these niggas battle, before you saw any of these niggas hit the stage and do any of this shit," he said. This is going to be a rerun. I can't wait to see what this shit will look like in the future.
Continuing on, Cassidy paid tribute to Freeway and sent his sincere condolences to the family of Harmony, who died recently after a lengthy battle with cancer. Cassidy also talked about the death of his mother-in-law, who passed away not long ago.  As soon as Freeway stepped up to the mic, he paid tribute to his late daughter.

"I want to begin by saying a final goodbye to my daughter. After a long and valiant battle with cancer, I had to say goodbye to my daughter this month. She fought every step of the way. Throughout the entire time, she kept a smile on her face, and I believe that she will make it to heaven, so I am satisfied."

He went on to say that his upcoming battle with Cassidy will serve as a necessary dose of authenticity that hip-hop will appreciate, and that he has been in tune with the modern culture of battle rap.

"At the end of 2022." To sum it up, Freeway said, "I've been studying the culture." The two of us started this shit and I am motherfucking ready, as Cas put it."

It's not going to be what you think it is. You're going to get what you want. That's a fact, no doubt about it. Cassidy and I plan to make history once more in 2022. "Get yourself in gear."

Fans of social media battle rap were surprisingly unenthusiastic about the rematch, with many expressing their exhaustion and disinterest in seeing Cassidy return to battle rap. There is a presumption that veterans cannot be accommodated.

However, the cultural impact a rematch of this caliber can have on the sport's notoriety should be considered by modern battle rap fans. The Big Daddy Kane and KRS-One Verzuz shows this kind of attitude. It is a sign of how far the battle rap genre has come since URL, Queen of the Ring, and Rarebreed were established, to Caffeine, which now hosts battles, to Drake's official support of hip-most hop's revered artist, Drake. For the preservation of hip-hop culture, it is essential to allow active legends, icons, and veterans to be showcased on the largest possible scale.
